🖐🏾 Negative. I don’t want no nigga in jail telling me how gorgeous I am. Females on the otherhand crave and need attention. They don’t feel as beautiful as they think they are unless their being told so.

Real talk, my guy, you’re the dumbest bitch alive lmao

not to be all “tw*light did nothing wrong” but misogyny honest to god killed the hunger games

it was no masterpiece sure but it also sure as hell wasnt the love triangle bullshit everyone made it out to be. seriously everyone blames this whole “YA fiction with the special One and teens overthrowing the oppressive government tropes” trend on the hunger games but the truth is that none of those books are anything like thg

god!!! im mad!! name one cliche YA novel where the government actually is BAD like not just “oh love is illegal” or “they barcode you!!uwu” instead of like. actual slavery and rampant poverty while the rich waste their money on dumb bullshit!! and name one main character who ACTUALLY suffers under the government’s regime!! who actually starves and works and suffers and has genuine REASON to rebel!! thg is the only YA book that had anything to say about wealth disparity and the dehumanization of the poor,, every other YA book uses it as a plot device to put some dumbass romance together or show how “badass” the MC is!! thg is genuinely emotional and the focus of the book isnt katniss’s archery and how cool she is and its NOT gale or fucking peeta bread. and then the marketing for the stupid fucking movies took the WHOLE POINT OF THE BOOK (which is to satirize and critique how women in entertainment have any serious things about them ignored in favor of whatever dress theyre wearing or who they’re dating) and turns that into……….. a fucking love triangle. and then the world forgets it because its just another dumb teen girl series. okay.

Me @ myself rn

oh also last thing. the fact that at the end katniss chose to kill Coin (the rebel leader/soon to be newest dictator) instead of just having a plain and simple boring happy ending shows just how different thg is from the YA fiction its compared to. no other book in this genre would have the guts (or even the idea) to put out such a blatant, obvious “the fight against oppression never ends, stay diligent” message and thg is iconic for it and it shows how much thought was actually put into its message. im sorry to susan collins for my 12 yo self for not understanding at the time and thinking it was just bad writing

thanks to everyone adding on about the representation! about finnick’s story and being trafficked! and about peeta and his disability!! and katniss and her  indigenous coding and PTSD!! And about how it shows how war n dictatorships always prey on marginalized groups!! and a billion other things!!! that the movies just fucked off n forgot about!!!

wanna add that the parts that can be considered as “love triangle” was actually about a choice between violence (gale) and peace/diplomacy (peeta) like the choice was never about a boy or romance, the choice was about morality and a way of life.

I personally felt somewhat betrayed by the love triangle in the movies. In the book it seemed pretty clear to me that Katniss was asexual (or perhaps aromantic) especially in the first Hunger Games where she is more concerned with surviving while Peeta is being controlled by his ranging hormones.

When I read it I was like “Finally! A heroine who’s actually give a shit about surviving and not just mooning over the Strong, Heroic Man”

straight people watching brokeback mountain and going “heehee gay cowboys! so funny!” is literally evil. it’s a movie about how gay men are terrified to be together and a lot of them end up in unhappy and unfulfilling het marriages. a lot of gay men back in the day were cowboys with the express purpose of living their fucking lives. gay cowboys existed everywhere because being out there in the middle of fuck knows where surrounded my other men (often times their partners) and farm animals was better than being publicly out and murdered, especially if you were a man of color, since they pioneered cowboy culture.

hot take: ‘chivalry’ is fine as long as it’s adapted to 21st century values. if you are a male, you SHOULD be aware that your female friends face certain issues that you as a male dont. acting on that awareness in a way that keeps your female friends safe, isn’t a bad thing.

like… opening doors isn’t rly chivalrous when it’s just a thing you ought to do for everyone. but real 21st century chivalry might be, like, standing between your female friend and the guy that’s trying to get her drunk, or offering to walk her home when it’s late.

if the ‘chivalry’ inconveniences everyone involved and you’re just doing it for your over-inflated male ego — ie, “no you’re the girl here, you HAVE to let me hold this door for you and do all these things for you even when you can do it yourself and im just slowing you down” — then it’s just outdated misogyny.

Chivalry was literally designed to make nobles aware of their power and influence so they don’t unintentionally harm people when trying to do their job of leading and protecting people. Modern chivalry should carry on that sentiment of men and white people becoming aware of their own power of privilege and influence to help and protect the lives of their peers.

*Not to inflate their egos, but because it’s the good thing to do and makes the world a better place to be.

Chivalry, at its core, involves being helpful to people who don’t have your advantages.

It involved generosity and protecting those weaker than oneself: including opening doors when doors were made of badly fit heavy wood and often got stuck, and women, especially undernourished exhausted-from-childcare women, had a harder time opening them. It involved not lying, and following through on your promises. (A guy who is consistently late with the accounting reports, which delays the whole team, is not dedicated to chivalry, no matter how polite he is on a date.)

Chivalry is a code of ethics that involves dedicating one’s strength and skills in service to others; it’s not based on gender roles.

gay culture is never having a New Years kiss

two years ago on new year’s eve I went out to a gay bar for the first time with a group of men and about 30 minutes before midnight I had to pee and the line was So Long and I got out of the bathroom literally during the 10 second countdown and I was just shouting the countdown as I wove my way through the shoulder-to-shoulder crowd, a little tipsy, looking for my friends, and I found them at the 5-count and my friend grabbed me and said “FOLLOW ME” and in the last 5 seconds before midnight he desperately shoved me into a girl he’d apparently met while I was in the bathroom who said she had no one to kiss and he yelled at us both “SHE’S A LESBIAN” and she kissed me. I’m not sure what my point is here but maybe just go out with a group of gay men who talk to strangers.

unsung hero of venom 2018: doctor dan lewis

the man who for once, in the entire history of movie boyfriends, does not give a shit that his girlfriend is within 100 yards of her ex, only that her ex is very ill and needs some tender loving care because wtf is that black space blob

THIS! And even at some point when Anne started to launch into explanations of ‘I swtg nothing is going on between me and Eddie’ he was quick to be like ‘that’s not even an issue. the issue is that he’s about to die and we need to find him????’ At no point was he ever jealous or possessive and he was always very kind and nice to Eddie because he feels secure in his relationship with Anne and trusts her.

I love Dr Dan and more men should aspire to be like Dr Dan

not only was Venom a romcom, it was way better than 99.9% of m/f romcoms
